The main objective of this course (120 ECTS) is to train young researchers in providing competitive services and researches on Prehistory, Paleo-anthropology, geology and paleontology, on the methods to be applied for prehistoric and archaeological research, on Quaternary’s geology and paleontology and on heritage preservation and revaluation.

The ERASMUS MUNDUS master degree in Quaternary and Prehistory is meant to prepare professionals with the following requirements:

Valid cultural background on scientific research, methods and knowledge on the ancient history of Man both from a cultural and from a naturalistic-prehistoric perspective;
Appropriate skills in analyzing natural components (both biotic and biotic) within the relationship and interaction between man and environment during the long omination process with specific reference to Quaternary period;
Knowledge on scientific aspects of Man’s evolution with special concern to naturalistic contents both from an historical and an evolutionary perspective, and also from the point of view of constant relationship with different ways of life and survival strategies used by our species along time;
Coordination skills and ability to intervene in an interdisciplinary way both in terms of coordination and development of different kinds of research within the subjects of the master degree;
Appropriate knowledge and management of filing and analysis of information concerning human evolution and natural environment of prehistoric community with special interest in biological and cultural aspects;
Appropriate skills in restoration and preservation techniques of materials in prehistoric natural sediments.
Interdisciplinary knowledge on the state of research within prehistory acquired at the main European Institutions.

The MEEES Masters Scholarships in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology

The MEEES programme is an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course, that aims to provide higher-level education in the field of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology. Graduate students involved in this Erasmus Mundus Masters course have the possibility of following a 18-month MSc programmes on either Earthquake Engineering or Engineering Seismology. In addition, the proposed EM Masters course envisages also the possibility of students following a 18-month study programme that leads to the attainment of a Masters degree on Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology.

If following the Engineering Seismology option, students will acquire the ability to design, execute and evaluate assessments of seismic hazard for site-specific engineering projects, for earthquake loss assessments, and for emergency planning scenarios. Students following the Earthquake Engineering option will acquire the ability to undertake seismic design of new structures and the assessment and strengthening of existing structures. The combined option of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology will enable students to acquire technical competence in both areas.

The MEEES consortium comprises five academic institutions, namely (i) the Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia (IUSS), (ii) the University of Pavia (UNIPV), (iii) the University of Patras, (iv) the University of Grenoble Joseph Fourier and (v) Middle East Technical University. It is noted, however, that the first two institutions, which are independent but are also both based in Pavia, jointly organise and run the postgraduate earthquake engineering programme in Pavia, through the Centre for Post-Graduate Training and Research in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (ROSE School). Hence in subsequent sections of this website, the term ROSE School is employed to refer to the activites of IUSS/UNIPV institutions within the scope of the MEEES consortium.

Overview
The Erasmus Mundus MSc programme in Photonics is a 2-year (4 semesters – 120 ECTS credits) program, with a fixed mobility track.

Photonics is now widely recognized as a major innovation enabling discipline for the 21st century. It can be defined as that field of science and technology where the fundamental properties of light and its interaction with matter are studied and applied.

First semester: takes place Belgium at Ghent University and is devoted to the fundamental basics of photonics in depth and to an introduction to the breadth of photonics. All of this in strong collaboration with another Belgian partner university, Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Second semester: takes place in Sweden at the Royal Institute of Technology KTH and is devoted to engineering skills in photonics and to applications of photonics.

Third semester: takes place in Scotland, UK at the University of St Andrews and is devoted to advanced photonics and research skills in photonics.

Fourth semester: is entirely devoted to the master dissertation. The location of the fourth semester depends on the student’s thesis choice. The thesis can take place in all partner universities and also in one of the three associated academic partners.

Each year is concluded by a Summer School whereby first and second year students meet, do project, attend lectures of world-renownded speakers in the field of photonics.

Furthermore, during the summer break after year 1, students can do an academic or industrial internship in a photonics company or reserach institute.

Leading research and educational institutions in Europe are collaborating to offer a joint Erasmus Mundus Master of Science program in Photonics, providing a top-quality education in all aspects of photonics. The master programme has a duration of two years (120 ECTS points), with a fixed mobility track in the first three semesters and a broad range of choice for the fourth semester, dedicated to the master thesis.

EMMP consists of five partners, which are included in the mobility track for the EMMP-students and who jointly organise this program. These core partners are:

Apart from the standard grants, a limited number of prestigious excellence grants will be awarded to the very best ranked European and non-European students.

These grants are also awarded by the EMMP consortium during the selection process.

UGent Excellence Grant:

for non-European students: 12000 Euro per year

Conditions:

- the UGent Excellence Grants will be awarded to the best ranked European and best ranked non-European applicant.

Other grant/scholarship possibilities

Several scholarships/grants are proposed each year to students enrolled or about to enroll in graduate programmes in optical science and engineering and related disciplines.

Unlike the EMMP Grants and Special Excellence Grants, the EMMP does not control the following grants which are offered by other parties.

SPIE scholarships (SPIE, international society for advancement of science and application of light)

Through 2009 SPIE has distributed over $2.8 million in scholarships to 1,233 students across 86 countries.

SPIE awarded over $300,000 in 2010 with individual scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $11,000. Applications are available at SPIE scholarships and the submission deadline for 2011 is January 15, 2011. The 2011 application form will be available in August 2010.

Belgian Government Scholarships for Indian students in the field of Photonics

Admission criteria

The Erasmus Mundus MSc in Photonics offers admission to applicants who appear to have the highest potential for graduate study and who, with the benefit of a graduate education, are the most likely to contribute substantially to their academic or professional fields through teaching, research, or professional practice.

The minimum graduate admission requirements are:

-A bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution (minimum 3 years full time study or 180 ECTS credits) in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Materials Science or a related discipline. Students in their last year of such a bachelor programme will however also be considered.

- Sufficient English language ability. The following shall be accepted as proof:
the prospective student has already successfully completed a one-year English-language study programme, either at a different institution of higher education or at a secondary school;
- a TOEFL-TEST, taken as recently as within the last two years, showing a score of at least 570 (paper-based) or 87 (internet-based)
- an original “test report from” (TRF) from IELTS, issued as recently as within the last two years, showing a score of at least 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 per each part
- If prospective students hold a secondary education diploma, an academic Bachelor’s diploma or a Master’s diploma awarded by an educational institution that is duly recognised by the Flemish Community, no proof of sufficient English language ability must be provided.

Candidates will be ranked according to the criteria given below:

- Obtained degrees. Applicants are recommended also to provide additional information (short course description, course credits,…) on the courses they have taken during their previous studies, especially in the fields of applied mathematics, electromagnetics, optics, electronics, telecommunications and semiconductor physics.
- Grades/marks
- English language ability
- Motivation statement
- Any relevant publications, thesis or project work, etc.
- The information about these 5 points has to be given in the application form.

In addition candidates are asked to provide at least two (2) letters of reference from persons who are very well acquainted with their academic performance. These letters may be sent directly to the office of the EMMP or together with the other application documents under sealed envelopes.

Candidates that have scored well on the above points will be briefly interviewed via telephone. They will be asked questions about their motivation and about their previous experience as well as technical questions.

[Europe] Erasmus Mundus Master Scholarships 2011 on Work, Organizational, and Personnel Psychology (WOP-P)

The European Master on Work, Organizational, and Personnel Psychology (WOP-P) is a postgraduate university programme, supported by the European Commission through the Erasmus Mundus Programme.
The Master requires a university degree in Psychology. The objective is to contribute to the qualification of professionals and researchers in the discipline of Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology emphasizing a European approach and perspective. The Master implements the main guidelines developed by the Euro-Psych model for the European Diploma of Psychology (EDP) supported by the European Federation of Psychology Association (EFPA). It also follows the Reference Model and Minimal Standards of the European Curriculum in WOP Psychology established by the European Network of Work and Organizational Psychology Professors (ENOP). Five European Universities are involved: Universitat de València (Spain) as the coordinating institution, Universitat de Barcelona (Spain), Université René Descartes Paris 5 (France), Alma Mater Studiorum-Università di Bologna (Italy), and Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal).
The duration of the Programme is two full-time years, with a total workload of 120 ECTS credits (60 per year). The languages of instruction and examination will be the languages of the countries where the universities are located (Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese), but some invited seminars and courses in the partner institutions may be in English.
Students will gain a broad view of the discipline thanks to the mobility requirements of the Master: The student has to develop at least 60 ECTS credits of the workload in the partner institution where he/she is registered (Home University), and at least 40 ECTS credits (1/3 of the total) in another partner institution located in a different country (Host University). Any combination of home and host universities, pertaining to different countries, is possible.
Students are awarded the double title, delivered by the WOP-P Programme
The Master on Work, Organizational, and Personnel Psychology (WOP-P) has four main objectives:
to prepare the students as competent practitioners in Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology at the entry level as independent (non supervised) practitioners. This preparation is inspired in the scientist-practitioner model, which assumes that good preparation as a practitioner implies the acquisition of professional and research competences
to offer a European referent of training in WOP-P to the students of other regions of the world
to promote mobility of European and third-country students and staff across Europe
to contribute towards university excellence and competitiveness within the European Higher Education system.

Without prejudice to high academic standards, in order to ensure geographical diversity among students/scholars, as compulsory requirement of the Erasmus Mundus requirements, WOP-P Consortium must and shall respect the following basic criteria when selecting students/scholars for an Erasmus Mundus grant/scholarship:
No more than two of the students selected for an Erasmus Mundus Master Course (EMMC) grant/scholarship should have the same nationality.
Each Non-European (or third-country) scholar selected to receive a grant should come from a different higher education institution

Erasmus Mundus European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR) 2011 Master Scholarships

EMMIR is the European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations. It is the first African-European Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Migration Studies. The first cohort will set out to study in September 2011.

EMMIR is jointly run by three African and four European universities, facilitated by a wider network of partners. Various associate organsiations on the regional, national and international level provide significant assistance for student internships and graduate’s employment. The quality of the programme is constantly evaluated by an international board of experts.

EMMIR is a unique study programme focusing on migration through an intercultural approach. It provides profound theoretical skills in migration studies combined with field work in Europe and Africa. It is designed as a multidisciplinary programme that addresses important contemporary issues in an emerging field of study.

Background

In the 21st century, migration processes – multidirectional in their spatial as well as social and cultural structure – increasingly contribute to the shaping of societies. Consequently, the presence of migrants adds emphasis to intercultural relations and intercultural communication, which are of key concern for social cohesion.

Arguably, migration and globalisation may be considered twin processes. They contest concepts of the nation state, including territoriality and citizenship, and direct attention to questions of social justice and human rights, peace and conflict. They also lead to the emergence e.g. of new concepts of identity and transnational social spaces. Answers to policy questions linked to phenomena as diverse as voluntary and forced migration, internal displacement and transcontinental flows, movement of unskilled labourers and brain drainers need differentiated investigation and evaluation as well as complex negotiation.

The IMSE programme (120 ECTS) is organised in four successive phases over two years, each providing the core knowledge and developing the skills of the incoming students. The phases are as follows:

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships Description

The Erasmus Mundus programme is a co-operation and mobility programme in the field of higher education. It aims to enhance quality in European higher education and to promote intercultural understanding through co-operation with third countries.
The Erasmus Mundus programme supports high-quality European Masters Courses, by providing attractive grants for students from around the world. The exact number of scholarships available for the Academic Year 2011-2012 will be announced on this website in October 2010.

Types of scholarships :

Category A Scholarships
Category A scholarships (third-country students) amounts to â‚¬ 48.000 for two years. Third-country nationals, eligible for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, are citizens from all other countries than: the 27 EU member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Nederlands, Portugal, the UK,Sweden,Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain) and the EEA-EFTA states (Norway, Lichtenstein, Iceland ).
In particular, Erasmus-Mundus applicants who are not residents of any of the above countries, and who have not carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the above countries, fulfil the requirements of a third country student.
Category B Scholarships
A category B scholarship can be awarded to any masters students who do not fulfil the category A criteria defined above. A category B scholarship amounts to â‚¬ 20.000 for two years.
General Information

The EU requires that we maintain a geographical balance of admitted students that receive an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. This means that no more than two students from a single country may receive an EM scholarship for the IMSE programme. Individuals who have already benefited from an EMMC scholarship are not eligible for a second scholarship or another Community grant while pursuing their Erasmus Mundus masters studies. Furthermore, students who have already received an Erasmus Mundus scholarship in previous years cannot apply for a subsequent Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

Selection Process and Application Deadline :

The consortium will allocate the scholarships by using a ranking based on the previously mentioned criteria and specific criteria set by the Erasmus Mundus Agency. An interview with pre-questionnaire may also be part of the selection procedure.

The IMSE Admission Board expects to be able to communicate to Erasmus Mundus Category A applicants whether they have been accepted to the IMSE programme and whether they have been awarded an EM category A scholarship in April 2011.

De deadline for Erasmus Mundus Category B scholarships is 15 April 2011. For these students, we expect to be able to communicate whether they have been accepted to the IMSE programme and whether they have been awarded an EM Category B scholarship in July 2011.

Note: A GMAT/GRE is compulsory for all students who wish to qualify for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. This also applies to students from partner universities.

Erasmus Mundus FUSION-EP Scholarships for Master in Nuclear Fusion Science and Engineering Physics

The aim of the European Master in Nuclear Fusion Science and Engineering Physics (FUSION-EP) programme is to provide a high-level, multinational, research-oriented education in fusion-related engineering physics, in close relation to the research activities of the partners, together with a well-integrated language and cultural experience. The combined and harmonized teaching & research of the 7 universities offers a broad range of competences in the field of fusion science and engineering physics. The Joint European Masters Programme offers a genuine European opportunity for Master level studies in a field which is of crucial importance to solving the urgent and vital problem of world energy supply.

In view of the expertise of the partners, the programme offers three programme tracks to the student: Plasma physics (fusion-oriented); Computational methods in physics; and Instrumentation and Radiation. The programme structure is combined with a mandatory stay for each student at two universities in two countries: semesters 1&2 at University A; and semesters 3 & 4 in B. Semesters 3 & 4 are in a particular track.

During semester 4 students will also attend a one month long winter school at the ITER site (attendance is compulsory). After semesters 2 & 4 a summer event is organized (attendance is compulsory) in which tracks and Master thesis topics are proposed for Master 1 students Master 2 students defend their thesis at this event. Student mobility is an inherent part of the programme structure and philosophy.

Admission criteria:

Bachelor degree in engineering physics, applied physics, physics or equivalent degree. Sufficient bachelor level knowledge in classical and modern physics is mandatory together with the necessary mathematical and computer programming skills. No difference is made between third-country students, EU students, grantees and non-grantees. Applicants (students and scholars) from third countries (whether or not applying for a grant) will be subject to a well-defined selection procedure aimed at achieving high quality.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

Per academic year Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available for FUSION-EP students from third countries are available. Nationals coming from all countries other than the 25 EU Member States (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, the UK, Sweden, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia), the EEA-EFTA states (Island, Liechtenstein and Norway) and the candidate countries for accession to the EU (presently Croatia and Turkey), who are not residents of any of the above countries, and who have not carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the above countries are considered â€œthird-country nationalsâ€.

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship consist of twenty monthly instalments of 1600 euro and a yearly fee of 5000 euro to cover expenses, like subscription fees, insurances and travel.

The European Doctor in Industrial Management (EDIM) is a four-year state-of-the-art doctoral research program for doctoral training addressing managerial issues of significance for the future competitiveness and sustainability of the industrial companies of Europe. The mission of the program is to generate cutting-edge knowledge at the intersection of engineering and management.

Our ambition is to produce doctors with a new European profile reflecting a wide scientific and international breadth in engineering and management.

EDIM candidates will conduct research directed to in close cooperation with European industry as a means to foster deep insight into managerial challenges of globalization and a profound intercultural awareness. EDIM-graduates will be able to address challenging managerial issues of globalization in industrial endeavours as they arise in e.g. operations, research and development, industrial marketing, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

EDIMâ€™s uniqueness lies in the fact that it acknowledges the importance to integrate a management perspective with deep technical knowledge.

The program is multi-disciplinary and empirically driven in order to gain a clearer understanding of the patterns and conditions for industrial endeavours in todayâ€™s international environment.

Fellowships

The EDIM program is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate program (EMJD). It is a fellowship program with excellent scholarship opportunities for the accepted candidates.

Scholarships

Annually there are nine scholarships awarded to the successful candidates in accordance with the following criteria;

- Five Category A fellowships awarded to students from countries that are not members of the European Union (currently 27 countries) plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Please note that doctoral candidates who are not from the above countries but who have studied/worked in the 27 member states, Iceland Liechtenstein and Norway for a period of 12 months for the last five years, fall also in this category. The only exception to this rule applies to candidates who have previously received an Erasmus Mundus masters scholarship in order to follow an EMMC who fall under category A.

- Four Category B fellowships are awarded to candidates who do not fulfill the Category A criteria defined above.

Admission requirements

The EDIM program is a four-year program that commences in the autumn of 2011. Application for the first edition of the program during 2011 will be opened on the 20th of September 2010. The online application closes at 1400 hours Central European Time (CET) on the 30th of November 2010.

Requirements

To be admitted to the program candidate should fulfill the following minimum requirement:

- A higher education degree of engineering in the M.Sc. level of the European LMD system (300 ECTS credits),
- Have a minimum TOEFL (test of English as a foreign language) score of 600 in paper-based test, 250 in computer-based test/100 in Internet based test, or IELTS (International English language Testing System) score of 7 in order to be considered for admission.

Europe : Erasmus Mundus Masters Course ( 120 ECTS) in Astronomy and Astrophysics

AstroMundus is a 2-years Erasmus Mundus Masters Course ( 120 ECTS) in Astronomy and Astrophysics offered by a consortium of 5 partner universities in 4 different countries: Austria, Italy, Germany, and Serbia.
Its main objective is to provide top-ranked students with an excellent background in Astrophysics, to introduce them to the world of modern astrophysical research, and foster their future career in this field. At the same time, in the spirit of the Erasmus Mundus programmes, we promote cultural exchanges between Third Country and European students and academics.

AstroMundus students carry out their master studies in at least 2 and up to four of these countries, in a stimulating and scientifically excellent international environment.

The official language of the course is English, but students are given the possibility to learn the languages of the host countries by attending language courses at the partner universities.

Successful students will be awarded a Joint Master Degree by all partner universities they have visited during the Master studies.
In addition they will obtain a Diploma Supplement to facilitate the recognition of their degree in other universities/countries.
At the end of each 2-years cycle of the Master Programme the best master thesis of the cycle will be awarded a prize.

Selection of Students

We aim at enrolling top-ranked students, therefore the selection of students will be primarily based on excellence. In particular during the selection process the following points will be carefully considered by the nominated Selection Committee:
- full academic background incorporating the list of courses followed
- testified examination marks/obtained grades
- language skills
- individual content in the letter of motivation
- relevant (astronomy/astrophysics related) extracurricular activities
- content of the reference letters

List of required documents

Eligible applicants must provide in electronic form the following documents in English language. For all documents whose originals are not in English language, we require a certified English translation. Scanned copies of the documents are accepted. In order to be admitted, selected students will be requested to present the originals (or certified copies) of all documents they have transmitted electronically at application time and any additional document required by the admission department of the University of Innsbruck according to the general Guidelines for International Students (with the exception of the proof of knowledge of German language, which is replaced by knowledge of English language for Erasmus Mundus students).
Completed and signed Application Form in all its parts including the list of all attended courses with credits and brief summary of the course contents, and a letter of motivation (max 1 page). Please, do not delete any part of the Application Form!
Bachelor's Degree in either Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, or Mathematics or recognized equivalent level of learning in the same field, quantified as 3 years of studies corresponding to 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
Since the first course will start in Sept. 2010, we request that the students either hold already their Bachelor or they expect to obtain it latest by August 2010. In the latter case students should provide a certification stating the expected date for the Bachelor's degree and the list of courses that are still in progress. The Bachelor's certificate and the grades obtained in the courses currently in progress must be uploaded to this site as soon as they are available.
Important note for Chinese students: Chinese students need to obtain a certification through the "Akademische PrÃ¼fstelle" in Peking. The relevant information is available at the APS web site.
Electronic copies of academic records.
Proof of proficiency in English language. Accepted tests and scores are the following:
Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English;
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English;
"International English Language Testing System" (IELTS), minimum "Band 6";
Paper-based "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (TOEFL) with minimum score 550 points;
Computer-based TOEFL with minimum score 220 points;
Internet-based TOEFL with minimum score 83 points;
UNIcert level "III";
C1 according to the Common European Framework (CEF).

Native English speakers are exempted from providing such a proof. Transcript of TOEFL / IELTS scores or equivalent should have been obtained not more than 2 years before application time. For application purposes students can submit scanned copies of their transcripts. Students that have been selected for admission must ask ETS for sending the TOEFL transcripts directly to the AstroMundus coordinating institution (University of Innsbruck).
An up-to-date curriculum vitae (resumÃ©) including a brief summary of the Bachelor's thesis, a description of relevant extracurricular activities that are related to Astronomy/Astrophysics and skills acquired (e.g. computer/programming skills), and the list of publications (if any).
Two letters of recommendation to be sent electronically by the referees by addressing the questions provided in the online referee form.
Scanned copy of a valid passport.
Pre-selected candidates might be interviewed by video-conference (or teleconference if not otherwiese possible).

Selection of Third Country and European Scholars

A number of scholarships will be offered to Third Country academics and European academics (the latter only if they are members of one of the consortium partner universities) who wish to carry out short periods (at least two weeks and up to three months) of teaching and/or research activities in the framework of the AstroMundus EMMC programme. Third Country academics are eligible to carry out their activities at the four European Universities that are member of the consortium, while European academics, provided they come from one of the consortium universities, are eligible to carry out their activities at the University of Belgrade, the Third Country member of the consortium.
Top-level academics will be selected by the nominated Selection Committee based on excellence and on consortium needs according to the specific topic of expertise.
The official language of the AstroMundus Masters Course is English.
Applications in electronic form are invited with deadline November 30th 2010 for both non-European and European academics.
As a minimum requirement for eligibility, applicants should hold a PhD in either Astronomy, Astrophysics, or Physics or an equivalent amount of research experience and have a long-standing experience of teaching at graduate level.

Who can apply

Eligibility: Students

The "Astrophysics" Erasmus Mundus Masters Course is open to students of all nationalities that fulfill these minimum requirements:
Hold a Bachelor degree in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, or Mathematics (or a certified equivalent amount of learning in the same field, quantified as 3 years of previous studies corresponding to at least 180 credits in the European Credit Transfer System) or expect to obtain it latest by August of the starting year of the Masters Course (i.e. by August 2010 for the course starting in September 2010);

All students that come from a country of the European Union or an EEA-EFTA State (Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein) or students that either are residents or have carried out their main activity (study, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last 5 years in one of these countries can apply in the category "European students".
All other students, including students coming from Switzerland, Turkey, and Western Balkan Countries (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244-99, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia) can apply in the category "Third Country students".

The European Master of Science Programme in International Health is part of tropEd, a network of 33 European and 7 non-European institutions for higher education. In existence since 1996, tropEd collaborates closely with institutions in Asia, Africa, and the Americas in providing postgraduate education and training opportunities.

Erasmus Mundus
The EM-ABG course is supported by the Erasmus Mundus Programme of the European Union. The Erasmus Mundus programme provides scholarships for third-country and EU students, as well as third country scholars (academic staff). The Erasmus Mundus programme is a higher education programme which promotes the European Union as a â€˜centre of excellenceâ€™ around the world. The programme supports European top-quality Masters Courses and enhances the global image of European higher education. The programme provides easier access to postgraduate education for university students from all over the world.
Available scholarships in 2011
Erasmus Mundus category A scholarships can be awarded to masters students, selected by the consortium, who come from a country other than an eligible applicant country and who are not residents nor have carried our their main activity (work, study, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last 5 years in one of these countries i.e. third country masters students.
For the program starting in August 2011, several scholarships (Erasmus Mundus category A) for non-EU students are available (2010: 12 scholarships). The Erasmus Mundus scholarships category A cover living costs, insurance, travel costs and subscription fees. The amount is â‚¬ 24,000 per year, â‚¬ 48,000 for the whole master course.
The programme is also open to students with a personal scholarship, and to self-paying students.
Deadlines
December 15: application deadline for non-EU students who want to apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship category A.

April 15: application deadline for self-paying non-EU students, or students who benefit from other grants than Erasmus Mundus scholarship
Application to the EM-ABG programme is possible through the online application tool. A print-out of the filled application form has to be added to the application package that is to be sent in hard copy before the mentioned deadline.

Please note that incomplete applications cannot be taken into consideration.
Third country and EU students, as well as scholars, can apply for admission to more than one Erasmus Mundus Masters Course. However, in the case that they get accepted for more than one Masters Courses, they must decide which Course they want to follow as they can receive only one Erasmus Mundus scholarship. As of the academic year 2008/2009, the number of applications must be limited to three Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses maximum.

Admission
The consortium has established a central application procedure at the EM-ABG co-ordinator (Wageningen), using a joint application form. The co-ordinating university selects the students that meet the following formal admission conditions:

BSc degree or equivalent degree in Animal Science or related fields with a number of prerequisites (e.g. knowledge of Statistics and Genetics).
Grade point average needs to be at minimum 70% of the maximum score.
Result of TOEFL exam paper based has to be at least 580, computer based at least 237 or internet based at least 92-93. An alternative is a minimum score of 6.5 from an IELTS test. The Consortium Committee can admit excellent third-country students with a somewhat lower TOEFL score (550 cq 213 or 79-80 and IELTS 6.0).
Application deadline for third country students that want to start in the upcoming academic year, applying for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship (Category A), is January 15th. EU students applying for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship (Category B), self-paying students or students with other scholarships can apply for participation in the upcoming academic year in the EM-ABG until April 15th.

Further steps to be taken towards the enrolment of students into the EM-ABG.
At the end of January, a list with names of students selected by the Consortium Committee for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship category A is sent to the Executive Agency of the European Union (EU). Approval of this list by the Agency makes the admission to the EM-ABG course and the allocation of an Erasmus Mundus scholarship definitive!

At the end of May, the list with names of selected students for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship category B, as well as non-EU scholars (academic staff) selected for a scholarship for scholars, is sent to the Executive Agency of the European Union. Approval of this list by the Agency makes the admission to the EM-ABG course and the allocation of an Erasmus Mundus scholarship definitive!
Students that applied to the EM-ABG without applying for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship will get information about their admission and the further steps to be taken towards their enrolment in May.
The next EM-ABG course will start in August, 2011, in Wageningen, with the three week introduction course â€œWelcome to EM-ABGâ€. After this introduction period, students will go to one of the six universities to follow the first year of the master course.

Goals of the Master's course
In this Master's course, knowledge and skills in all fields in BME will be given, so when you finished the Master's programme, you can be employed as generalist, and you will also be specialised in one particular field of BME; as a student, you are able to select any field within BME. You will be trained to work in interdisciplinary project teams, composed of engineers and medical specialists. To prepare further for interdisciplinary teams, students and scholars are treated as equal. To train for working in a European setting, you will get knowledge in the health care situation in several countries in Europe, and you will be trained in cultural differences between European countries.

Admission Procedure
Submission to the Master's course of Biomedical Engineering

For submission for the Erasmus Mundus Master's course of Biomedical Engineering, an application form has to be filled in and sended to the University of groningen. The final deadline for this submission is April 17th 2011 for EU-Students and December 1st, 2010 for non-EU-students. On the application form, the three Universities of preference need to be filled out. Also the preference of the University for the third and fourth semester can be filled out. This can be changed until the first of june, the year the third semester is starting. After submission a confirmation of receipt is received by e-mail.

After studying the application forms, the management committee will make a distribution of applicants among the consortium universities based on their capacity. There will be a notification about the outcome of the selection procedure, within 2 months after the deadline for application. This decision is a final decision. The course starts September 1st each year.

If accepted, a letter of acceptance will be received with information on where to start the course. The international offices provide the non-EU students and scholars with all necessary information and materials (brochures especially designed as a guide for foreign students / scholars) on structure of the university, its academic courses and extra-curricular offerings. Subsequently, arrangements will be made with the international offices of the participating universities for visa, housing, etc.

All accepted candidates must reply within 3 weeks to confirm their attendance to the course.
Non-EU students will in principle be equally distributed among the partner universities. Of course, in the distribution process the consortium will take into consideration the preferences of the selected non-EU students as much as possible. The principles of equal opportunities without any form of discrimination will be applied.

Submission for semester 3 and 4
Ultimately, in June of the 2nd semester the three specialisations of the 3rd semester in the preference of choice must be submitted.
After one year the studying progress will be judged. If the first year is not finished, the student has to leave the EMMC. In this way we will increase the level of our Masterâ€™s.
Selection criteria
To ensure quality of the course, the enrolment in CEMACUBE is limited to 20 students per consortium university. The consortium reserves at least 15 places for non-EU students.
For the first year that the EMMC is running the course is limited to 35 European students and 15 non-EU students, so in general 10 per consortium university.

For admission with a scholarship, you need to meet the following criteria:

A BSc in Biomedical, chemical, electronical or mechanical engineering, or applied physics. In detail the Bachelor program must demonstrate that the following criteria are attained:
Basic knowledge and understanding of mathematics, physics, chemistry
Applying, integrating knowledge and understanding of mathematics, physics, chemistry
The capability to communicate effectively in English, both in written and in verbal form.
An ability to conduct scientific research individually on a distinct, well described topic
An ability to design products that can solve problems in a systematic way
The applicant needs to send in the original of the transcript of records (or certified copy) or degree certificate. Applicants in the final year of their Bachelorâ€™s study may also apply. They should send in an updated version of their transcript of records. They will be accepted on the condition that they will have met with all requirements by the start of the CEMACUBE-course in September.
Degree certificates, originating from other than the consortium universities, will be judged by the consortium secretariat that use lists of universities with a sufficient level of quality.
An excellent command of the English language is a prerequisite for participation in the CEMACUBE programme.
Academic excellence as is evident from the awarding institution of the first degree, the grades obtained and the content of two letters of reference.

EU-regulations that are installed to ensure a geographical balance of the selected students require that no more than two students from the same country can be awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship

Due to the high tuition fees in Dublin, we will limit the number of students for Dublin to 14%. The other students will go to the other 4 universities (a mean of 21% per university).
Erasmus Mundus Masters are funded by the European Union. Together with 18 other Master programmes, CEMACUBE has in 2009 been selected as a new Erasmus Mundus Masters programme that will be funded for five years (and with possible extension of another 5 years). The competition was fierce; only about 20% of the proposals for new Erasmus Mundus Masters have been awarded funding.

Erasmus Mundus aims to enhance the quality of higher education in Europe, and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation with third-world countries. In addition, it contributes to the development of human resources and the international cooperation capacity of higher education institutions in non-European countries by increasing mobility between the European Union and these countries.

The Erasmus Mundus programme Computer Simulations for Science and Engineering (COSSE) is a joint initiative of four European universities:

The field of computer simulations is of great importance for high-tech industry and scientific/engineering research, e.g. virtual processing, climate studies, fluid dynamics, advanced materials, etc. Often the field is referred to as the third pillar of science complementing theory and experiments.
COSSE is a two-year master's programme offering a double degree from two universities. The students enter one of the universities and continue the second year at one of the other institutions in another country. COSSE offers education of the highest international standard as well as a unique experience of meeting different European cultures, languages, climate and nature.

Admission requirements for COSSE
The admission requirements for COSSE are based on previous studies, language requirements and documentation. Please note that the admission requirements are specific for each Erasmus Mundus Master Programme.
1. Previous studies: A completed bachelor's degree
The applicant should have a completed bachelorâ€™s degree in Science or Engineering encompassing a minimum of 180 ECTS credits or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognized university (listed in the latest edition of the International handbook of universities). The applicant should have a solid background in mathematics, computer science and numerical analysis. In addition, basic knowledge in some branch of engineering and science is required. The B.Sc. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) must be at least 75% of the scale maximum.
Students in their final year of undergraduate education may also apply and can, if considered qualified, receive a conditional offer. If this applies to you, you should include a written statement from the degree administrationâ€™s office (or equivalent department), confirming that you are enrolled on the final year of your education and giving your expected completion date. If you receive a conditional offer, you should present your degree certificate to the Admissions Office before enrollment at the latest.
Applicants studying longer technical study programmes and who have completed courses equivalent to an amount of 180 ECTS, will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A certificate from the degree administrationâ€™s office (or equivalent department) must be enclosed, stating that the courses taken so far are considered to be equivalent to a bachelorâ€™s degree in the country where the studies are carried out.
2. Language requirements: Proof of English proficiency
Applicants must provide proof of their English language proficiency, which is most commonly established through an internationally recognized test.

A minimum overall mark of 6.5 is required, with the writing section fulfilling the requirement of 5.5 and no section lower than 5.0 (only Academic Training accepted).

English test results from TOEFL should be sent directly from the ETS test centre to KTH Admissions Office (institution code 7966, department code 99). If your degree was awarded in Cameroon, Canada, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan or USA an official transcript of records must be sent in a sealed envelope directly from your university.
If your degree was awarded in Pakistan, it has to be attested by the Higher Education Commission in Pakistan. Each page of your transcript of records as well as your degree certificate have to be stamped and signed by HEC. We only accept documents attested after 1 January 2009 for reasons of verification.
Students with Chinese nationality considering to do part of their studies in the Netherlands should submit a NESO certificate. This is not mandatory for acceptance to the programme but is easiest acquired in China.

3. Cover Sheet

This programme offers the unique opportunity for interdisciplinary studies of law and economics at two or even three European and Non-European universities. Each partner university awards a Master degree (LL.M. / M.A. / M.Sc.). The programme provides students with an advanced understanding of the economic effects of divergent laws and prepares students for a professional career, for example, in public organisations, in multinational law firms or consultancy firms. Graduates are also well prepared for doctorate research in a PhD programme such as the European Doctorate in Law and Economics (EDLE).
Who Can Apply?
The EMLE is a postgraduate course. Preference will be given to applicants who already have a first master degree.
The minimum requirement for admission is a bachelor degree, provided that this degree leads up to employability in the relevant labour market. In particular with respect to the legal profession, stricter job qualifying criteria (first master degree) may be required by national regulations.
Applicants with a bachelor degree only need to provide proof that this degree is an appropriate level of qualification in the labour market in their home country.
Besides graduates in Law or Economics, students with a first degree in Business Administration or in other social sciences may also apply if the curriculum includes a substantial number of courses in law and/or economics. The above requirement with respect to employability in the labour market equally applies.
No student may apply to more than three Erasmus Mundus courses in any given year.

The application procedure differs depending on whether an applicant is considered a â€˜European studentâ€™ or â€˜third country studentâ€™ in accordance with the criteria of the European Union (the official definition of â€˜third country studentsâ€™ is available at the Erasmus Mundus website). European students are those who either
have a passport of an EU Member State or of the EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), or
have carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the above countries.

Structure of the programme

The duration of the Mamaself Masters course is two years (120 ECTS credits). The academic programme is split into two years with 60 ECTS credits for each. The language of instruction and examination is English. The student will stay one year in one institution and a second second in another institution. It is not possible to stay the two years at the same site in Munich. The second year will be split in two semesters : the first one at a university, the second one is dedicated to the Master thesis project and can be conducted at another university or at Large Scale Facilities.

Scholarships for third-country scholars are calculated as follows: 2400 EUR for two weeks up to 14400 EUR for 3 (12 weeks) months.
JEMES Consortium Scholarships for European applicants
JEMES offers an own scholarship program for outstanding applicants. The scholarship has value of 10.000â‚¬ for two years (including 3000 euros/year as fee waiver and 2000 euros/years as mobility assistance). JEMES European Student Scholarship Regulations (course 2009-2010), pending to update for non-European students. Candidates must be hold a first degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related areas and persons who hold a first degree.
ECIU Mobility grants
These grants for European students have been designed to facilitate mobility within the Master programme. They have a value of 1800 â‚¬ in total p.p. and will be awarded for one semester (6 month 300 â‚¬), paid as one lump sum, normally prior to actual mobility. They can only be awarded to students who do not have an ERASMUS Mundus or a JEMES Consortium Scholarship.
Candidates have to be admitted to JEMES and, as a rule, have to be actively engaged in their first semester (or have it completed) with good results at the time of application. Grants will be awarded for one semester only.
Students may combine this grant with other partial / small grants (e.g. under the EU Socrates/Erasmus scheme), but holders of full scholarships from other institutions / donors are excluded.

two letters of recommendation must be submitted from faculty members acquainted with the applicant's work in the major area of undergraduate study. If that work occurred some time ago, recommendations from those familiar with the applicant's professional performance are acceptable as well.

How to pre-enrol for JEMES Master
First you will have to register to get an â€œNIAâ€ (Student Identification Number). To do so, click on this link and follow the instructions.
Once you have your NIA, you can pre-enrol and attach the documentation yourself via Internet. Click on this link and follow the instructions.
However, before doing so, you will need to collect and scan the above documentation.
If you do not yet have the degree because you are still completing the course, you must declare this in the â€œSituation of previous studiesâ€ section, indicating the number of credits passed and the total number of credits you still have to take to gain the qualification.
A paper-based form is necessary, and the students have to upload their documents themselves.

Applicants applying for ERASMUS Mundus grants:
Category A from countries except the European Union, EEA/EFTA, accession states (candidates for EU membership). Deadline is 31st December 2010 . Candidates have to submit a complete application up to this date. Otherwise they can not obtain the grant. Category A includes the Western Balkans and Turkey Window and covers: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244/99, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey.

[European] Master in Law and Economics (EMLE)

This programme offers the unique opportunity for interdisciplinary studies of law and economics at two or even three European and Non-European universities. Each partner university awards a Master degree (LL.M. / M.A. / M.Sc.). The programme provides students with an advanced understanding of the economic effects of divergent laws and prepares students for a professional career, for example, in public organisations, in multinational law firms or consultancy firms. Graduates are also well prepared for doctorate research in a PhD programme such as the European Doctorate in Law and Economics (EDLE).

Who Can Apply?
The EMLE is a postgraduate course. Preference will be given to applicants who already have a first master degree.

The minimum requirement for admission is a bachelor degree, provided that this degree leads up to employability in the relevant labour market. In particular with respect to the legal profession, stricter job qualifying criteria (first master degree) may be required by national regulations.

Applicants with a bachelor degree only need to provide proof that this degree is an appropriate level of qualification in the labour market in their home country.

Besides graduates in Law or Economics, students with a first degree in Business Administration or in other social sciences may also apply if the curriculum includes a substantial number of courses in law and/or economics. The above requirement with respect to employability in the labour market equally applies.

No student may apply to more than three Erasmus Mundus courses in any given year.

Application Procedure
The application procedure differs depending on whether an applicant is considered a â€˜European studentâ€™ or â€˜third country studentâ€™ in accordance with the criteria of the European Union (the official definition of â€˜third country studentsâ€™ is available at the Erasmus Mundus website). European students are those who either

have a passport of an EU Member State or of the EEA-EFTA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), or
have carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the above countries.
All applicants who are characterized by neither of the above conditions are considered as third country students.

Note that students with multiple nationalities who are citizens of one of the countires listed in the definition, as well as of a non-European country, and who have not spent 12 months in Europe may choose whether they want to apply as European or as third country students.

Scholarship opportunities for EMLE students
The European Union provides attractive scholarship opportunities for EMLE students through two separate programmes.

First, the Erasmus Mundus Programme offers generous grants to both European and third country students.
Second, European students may also benefit from the Erasmus Mobility Grants.

Furthermore, the fifteen highest ranked admitted non-European applicants who are not nominated for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship will receive a partial waiver of the tuition fee of 4,000 euro.

The EACEA (the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) awards 7 to 10 category A scholarships and 6 to 8 category B scholarships per Erasmus Mundus Master's programme.
Category A
Scholarships (non-EU member states) can be awarded to applicants from non-EU member states (but not to applicants from Norway, Liechtenstein or Iceland) unless they have resided in a EU member state or in Norway, Liechtenstein or Iceland, for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years (by 31 January of the year of enrollment).
The category A scholarship includes:

Candidates who apply for an Erasmus Mundus Master Programme are at the same time considered for a scholarship nomination for this specific programme. The scholarships are awarded to the highest ranked candidates that fulfill the following scholarship conditions:
The applicant has applied correctly, fulfilled the admission requirements and is nominated for a scholarship by the EM consortium.
The applicant has not applied to more than three (3) Erasmus Mundus master's programmes during one round of applications.
The applicant should be able to spend his study period in at least two of the consortium partner countries. These two countries must be different from the country in which the applicant has obtained his/her last university degree; the mandatory mobility periods cannot be replaced by virtual mobility, neither can they take place in institutions outside the consortium.
The applicant has not yet benefited from an EM master's programme scholarship.
The applicant should not benefit from another Community grant while pursuing their Erasmus Mundus masters studies.
The applicant should be enrolled as a full-time student and commit himself to participate in the master's programme in accordance with the terms defined by the consortium in the Student Agreement. Failure to do so could lead to the cancellation of the scholarship.
All applicants must submit the required documents, regardless of prio applications.

Deadlines and timetable

The deadline for applicants, that want to apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship is 1 December of each year for the next cycle of the programme starting in fall of the following year.

Applications arriving by the deadline at the Global Studies office in Leipzig (address see below) will be automatically taken into consideration for the Erasmus Mundus grant. Therefore please send only one application to apply for the Master's course in Global Studies and the Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

For applicants that do not want to apply for the Erasmus Mundus grant or that missed the above indicated deadline it is possible to apply by 30 June of each year for the next cycle of the programme starting in fall of the same year.

Meeting the application deadline will be established by the date of arrival of the hardcopy application at the Leipzig office.

Approximately 3 weeks after your application has arrived in our offices you will receive a confirmation of receipt via e-mail. The final decision on the award of the Erasmus Mundus scholarship will be made in June only.
The final decision on the admission to the programme for those students not being awarded an Erasmus Mundus grant will be announced at the latest by the end of July. You will be informed via e-mail soon after a decision taken.

Europe : Erasmus Mundus Minerals and Environmental Programme (EMMEP)

The EMMEP (Erasmus Mundus Minerals and Environmental Programme) is a 2 year M.Sc. program for students in Mining / Geotechnical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Recycling and related academic studies. There are three different specialisations; accommodating groups with 15 to 20 students each.

Joining the EMMEP program is an excellent opportunity to study abroad with a group of international students.

Applications for the 2010-2012 Program have now been closed. For the 2011-2013 programme, applications from Non-European Students can be submitted until November 1st, 2010. European Students can apply until April 1st, 2011. The application form can be found here.

An application for the EMMEP Programme should contain the following documents:

A description of your preferred specialisation within the EMMEP Programme (EMC, EMEC or EGEC)
